Job Description

The Country Language Editor Temp. will have a detailed knowledge and background on the country where they resided in the past 5 years at least, will be proficient in the local language and will be able to support our mapping project with very detailed knowledge on cultural specifics and logistics in the respective country. They will be part of an international environment where they will be able to use their linguistic skills and will demonstrate great analytical skills and attention to detail.  

Responsibilities

  • Analyse geographic and linguistic source data from the country ensuring accuracy and relevance 
  • Review and provide feedback on geographic data and correct navigation data  
  • Recommend and implement cartographic improvements based on the local markets enhancing user experience 
  • Improve large datasets together with an international team 
  • Research "Point of interests" in local areas 
  • Label training data for machine learning of an address parser 
  • Review and correct pronunciation of street and place names, and provide suggestions for improvement 

Requirements

Soft skills: 

  • Fluent or native speaker in the local language – Indonesian  
  • Professional proficiency in English 
  • Confident user of word processing and spreadsheet software such as MS Word and MS Excel 
  • Motivated to learn how to use new software tools 
  • Pragmatic and proactive attitude 
  • Detail oriented 
  • Excellent communicator 
  • Able to work both independently and with others 
  • Analytical thinking 
  • Very good understanding of local road laws 

Technical Skills: 

  • Experience with macOS 
  • Experience with GIS software will be considered an advantage 
  • Knowledge of product localisation 
  • Experience working with databases and data analysis 
  • Experience working with commercial and open data sources 
  • Able to assess accuracy and reliability of different web sources 
  • Experience working with issue tracking software (e.g., Jira) 
  • At least 1-3 years of professional experience in Translation, Journalism, Content Creation, Tourism, Geography, Cartography, or similar 
  • Excellent written and communication skills in the local language in country of scope (Grammar, Orthography, Dialects) 
  • Specific local and cultural knowledge about the country in scope
